Peter Farrelly, co-writer and co-director of Dumb and Dumber, has confirmed that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have doubled down on getting dumber, with both actors signing contracts to reprise roles as noodles Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, respectively, in a sequel to the 1994 comedy.
ComingSoon.net reports that Farrelly disclosed details over Sunday’s banquet for the Farrelly Brothers’ upcoming comedy The Three Stooges.
“We’re getting set to shoot Dumb and Dumber 2 in September,” Farrelly said. “It’s the first sequel we’ve ever done and we’ve got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.”
The 1994 original followed a cross-country journey by well-meant but profoundly stupid friends Lloyd and Harry.
The movie brought forth a 2003 prequel of sorts entitled, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, which starred Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen as Harry and Lloyd, respectively.
Farrelly quickly refused to acknowledge the 2003 version over the Three Stooges junket, adding that Carrey and Daniels were both keen to appear on the sequel, but the former had schedule conflicts that hampered its realization.
Farrelly stressed, “We did not do Dumb and Dumberer. That was a studio thing. So we’ve always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, ‘We’ve got to do this thing again.’ He had just watched ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and he said, ‘This is the perfect sequel. Let’s do it.’”
