The Avengers has bested other upcoming films as the most anticipated summer movie this year, according to online ticketing site Fandango in its latest survey of 2,000 moviegoers.
The widescreen adventure of the team composed of Earth’s most powerful superheroes will hold its premiere on May 4, but 31 percent of surveyed men chose the film from Marvel Studios as the movie they are most likely to watch.
While this statistical figure declined considerably when it came to women, 16 percent of female moviegoers said The Avengers was their most awaited film in summer 2012.
According to Fandango’s report, pre-sales for The Avengers are selling like hotcakes already, with the film accounting for 21 percent of tickets sold on the online ticketing site on Tuesday.
However, while fan boys are keen to watch if Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk can pull through in protecting the world from villains, female moviegoers are more worked up for Universal Pictures’ fairytale adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart, the survey discovered.
Twenty-two percent of female moviegoers said they were waiting the opportunity to see Kristen Stewart duel with the evil queen (Charlize Theron) with eagerness.
The Dark Knight, the final installment in the caped crusader series, is gaining vigor, especially given that it not up until July 20, and thus has yet to receive a similar major promotional get-up-and-go as The Avengers.
Another 23 percent among male moviegoers had more excitement to watch The Dark Knight Rises, with the Batman movie building up hype for the men who are most looking forward to catching it this summer, while 10 percent of females sided with the comic-book-turned-movie flick, which makes it second on the men’s list and fourth on women’s.
Both lists had almost the same entries, namely The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and Men in Black 3, except for Snow White and the Huntsman, The Bourne Legacy, Prometheus and Dark Shadows, the latter of which highlights another movie between director Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp.
