The first trailer for Tim Burton’s take on classic cult TV show Dark Shadows was released earlier this week, and fans of the original series might find things a little different to how they remembered ‘em…
Burton’s version, a feature length movie due out in May, stars Johnny Depp (of course) and Burton’s leading lady, both at home and at work, Helena Bonham Carter. Depp plays Barnabas Collins, an eighteenth century ladies’ man who breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique (Eva Green), who then curses and turns him into a vampire forced to remain buried alive for all eternity.
That is until he’s accidentally dug up in the 1979s.
Burton’s version looks to be going down the same route as his adaptation of Sweeney Todd and the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The trailer starts with a serious disposition and ends up with the surprising inclusion of a Barry White classic…
The poster was also released last week and gives a tantalizing look at Depp’s Barney all vamped up.
Tim Burton fans are likely to love what Dark Shadows has to offer, which, as the trailer suggests, is a rather knowing and almost tongue-in-cheek comedy that once again brings together Burton’s trademark theatrical visuals and Depps off kilter character acting.
But don’t just take my word for it, either check out the trailer below or visit the Apple site for an HD version!
