After the successful run of the Harry Potter franchise from J.K Rowling’s book series of the same name, Warner Brothers is now looking for its next aspirational project.
According to Deadline, actor/writer/producer/director Ben Affleck will head The Stand.
Affleck has already helmed several critically heralded films under his belt, which include Gone Baby Gone in 2207 and The Town in 2010.
The Armageddon star currently directs Argo, a film taking into account Iran’s 1979 hostage crisis in Iran.
Director David Yates and writer Steve Kloves, both from theHarry Potter film series, reportedly almost closed a deal with Warner Brothers in August to work for the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, which failed to materialize.
The Stand is a horror-fiction story in the wake of a pandemic contagion that kills most humans, with a few survivors.
